The Falcone Report

December 2023

It’s the last month of the year, and that means time for reflection, family and friends, and plans for 2024! I hope that wherever you are you have a great holiday season filled with adventure and too much food.

What I Wrote and What I Read

As is tradition for the December newsletter I like to give a bit of a recap on everything that I read and wrote this year. I’ve always found that tracking these things can be quite helpful in planning and have some idea of whether I’m close to being on track. This isn’t meant to be chains and shackles though, but rather a bit of a framework to keep my nose to the grindstone as it were. Of course, there are a few weeks left so these numbers will go up a bit, but this is a good approximate. It’s unlikely that I’ll suddenly write 100,000 words or something, so my end of year tally for 2023 sits like this:

  • Words written: 23,458
  • Comic pages written: 48
  • Fiction books read: 5
  • Non-fiction books read: 8
  • Graphic novels read: 12
  • Comic issues read: 83
  • Movies watched: 24
I would have liked to write more of course, but all in all not a bad set of results. Interestingly I read way more non-fiction in 2023 than I did in 2022, with everything else being more or less the same.

You’ve got a golden ticket! Andrew and I talk about the juggernaut of children’s author, Roald Dahl. What were our favourite works, what shaped our own writing, and why are some of his tales timeless?

Monthly Cocktail

Eggnog White Russian
  • 2 oz coffee liqueur
  • 1 oz vodka
  • 2 oz eggnog
  • Pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon
A festive twist on the classic made famous by The Dude, first fill a rocks glass with crushed ice. Shake the vodka and coffee liqueur in a shaker with ice and then pour over the crushed ice. Pour the egg nog on top (if you want to get fancy you can float this). Garnish with a pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon. Happy holidays!
I’m always looking for feedback on this newsletter. What kinds of things do you want to hear from me? Let me know here.
