The Falcone Report
I’m writing this newsletter as I snack on miniature Kit Kat bars and Tootsie Rolls, so you all know that Halloween was a success. I’ve often found that November hits lit a freight train racing towards Christmas, but this month I’m attempting to be a tad more focussed on my writing efforts. A strong finish to 2023 begins here!

Alrighty, here we are! November. Or National Novel Writing Month! Or NaNoWriMo as the kids say. This is the month where starry-eyed writers around the world attempt to put 50,000 words to paper between November 1st and 30th. 1,667 words a day. No big deal, write? This, of course, is way harder than it sounds and while I’ve given it a good college try over various years, I don’t think that I’ve ever actually succeeded. But that all changes in 2023. I have a pretty ambitious plan this year; however, instead of working on one large 50,000 word project I have it broken up into several smaller projects that will all total the 50,000 word count. Wish me luck and I’ll let you know how it all goes next month.

The Silver Coin vol 2 by Michael Walsh, Josh Williamson, Ram V, Matthew Rosenberg, and Vita Ayala.

Naturally, I spent last month reading and watching a bunch of seasonally appropriate spooky tales and boy does this collection fit that bill. Michael Walsh is again joined by a bevy of writers to weave tales of terror involving the titular corrupting coin. While all the stories are great, the horrific story set in a video arcade and involving a scene that would make Mortal Kombat look like Candyland.

It’s time for our annual spooky episode! This year we talk about Aliens in horror fiction and how they are a stand in for various flavours of fear.

One of the oldest cocktail recipes (variations date back over 100 years) an Irish Coffee is the perfect drink on a cold day. Add the coffee to a footed mug or regular mug and add the whiskey, Kahlua, and sugar and slowly stir. Top with whipped cream and shaved chocolate if desired.

I dig a warm cocktail this time of year and generally I’m unaffected by caffeine late at night, so this drink makes a perfect end to a great meal.
