The Falcone Report

January 2025

Happy New Year to all of you fine folks who are kind enough to subscribe to this newsletter! 2024 was a wild ride and 2025 is shaping up to be even bigger! At this point the year 2025 seems so futuristic. I don’t know if it has landed exactly where I thought it would back when the year 2000 hit though. We all have tiny computers that carry the entire repository of human knowledge available at the touch of a button, but everyone has also gone back to collecting records, so some things are eternal I guess.

What I’m Writing

Long term readers of this newsletter know that I lay out meticulous plans for the year only to have them dashed by the fickle fortunes of life, and I can confidently tell you that this year will be no different! I do have plans to start a Youtube channel. Fans have been asking me for a few years and it might be time to offer some neat, behind-the-scenes extras that delve into the world of writing and creative productivity. So stay tuned!

The Bastards of Pizzofalcone is one of my favourite Italian crime series (and not just for the name) but the English translations are quite a bit behind the Italian originals. While I probably could muddle through the originals with patience and a good dictionary, I tend to just exercise a bit of patience and wait for the English versions.

In the series a rag-tag group of disgraced police officers have been forced to work together and are surprisingly effective at solving crimes. The Naples-based series is immensely popular in Italy, spawning a comic book series and television show.

Monthly Cocktail

Brandy Alexander

  • 1 oz brandy
  • 1 oz crème de cacao
  • 1 oz heavy cream
Mix the above ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker and strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with a little nutmeg. As with many drinks its origins are in terrible dispute, mostly attributed to some king and/or bartender named Alexander.

It’s warm and hearty and cozy and for me was the perfect drink to ring in the new year on a chilly Dec 31st.
I’m always looking for feedback on this newsletter. What kinds of things do you want to hear from me? Let me know here.
