The Falcone Report

December 2024

I am currently full of Christmas cheer, despite the fact that it is very early in the month. Partially this is due to having children, so Christmas cheer is (happily) forced upon you on November 1st, but mostly this is due to just having gone out to a tree farm and obtained a lovely 8’ pine that I am now starting at in all its decorated glory.

December is a time for reflection and thanks, and I want to thank every one of you who subscribe to my monthly brain thoughts. Big things coming in 2025 and I can’t wait to share it all!

What I’m Writing

It is done. Finished. Complete. The Great Comic Caper, the long-awaited sequel to Comic Con Men has reached the point where I can happily say that I have typed “the end”. There is, of course, still a lot of work to go into this project before it hits the stands but the biggest step, namely actually writing the thing in the first place, is done! To say that I’m excited is an understatement, but at the same time I don’t have much capacity for celebration because there still needs to be editing, proofreading, compiling, kickstarting, and all other manner of fun before I can fully and completely count this as truly done.

Also, have I ever told you that this is book two of a trilogy?

Hidden Potential: The Science Behind Achieving Greater Things

By Adam Grant

I am fascinated by productivity. What makes us succeed? Overcome adversity? Smash through creative blocks? The traditional feeling has been that willpower and hard work, buckling down, is the only true path to success, but there is an increasing body of research showing that our preconceived notions of success may not be as cut and dry as we imagine.

Adam Grant takes a deep dive into some of the world’s most successful people and looks at how support, play, risk-taking, and other factors can contribute to success far more than simple “hard work”. The book will speak to everyone, and everyone will find a piece of themselves or their work in the examples. If you are a productivity buff like me you’ll enjoy the ride, but anyone who wants to learn more about motivation will find it an interesting read.

Monthly Cocktail

Fireside Negroni

  • 1 oz Mezcal
  • 1 oz Campari
  • 1 oz Sweet Vermouth
  • Orange slice for garnish
A smoky variation on the original negroni, the Fireside is a great winter cocktail. Mix the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and strain into a tumbler. Garnish with an orange peel. A perfect sip for a cold winter’s night!
