The Falcone Report
I am exhausted. The gauntlet of Halloween events and the time change has sapped my internal reserves. Luckily, I know I have several bags of candy for refueling. We’ve also just received proper fall weather, which means hiking through colour-changing leaves with a warm coffee in hand. Any writer will tell you that walking is an essential part of writing, and this time of year is the most pleasant of seasons to undertake the pastime.

Writing this newsletter is my little break from finishing the novel. I now have three chapters remaining and I’m overjoyed to almost be finished. More later. Next month’s report will be a doozy.

The Dungeon on Blood Island
|
Long-time followers of my work (and listeners of the podcast) will know that I was, am, and ever will be a fan of the Fighting Fantasy book series by Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson. A combo of choose your own adventure and Dungeons and Dragons, the book series lets YOU be the hero.
|
I devoured these books as a kid and spent every penny allotted to Scholastic Book Fairs to their purchase, so I’m always excited to see a new book in the series come out, and I love the fact that children of today will be similarly inspired by the worlds held within.
|
This particular entry follows along the best of the series – the Deathtrap Dungeon books – wherein two rich feuding brothers create a Squid Game type dungeon full of traps and beasties to test the mettle of an adventurer.
|
It’s a tonne of fun to read and sends me back down memory lane when I was first discovering what a Kobold was.

It’s our annual Halloween episode where we look at a type of monster! This month: Robots!

My studio mates Kyle Smith and Katie Sawatsky have a Kickstarter for their comic Blackmouth:
|
“Welcome to Blackmouth, a dark fantasy graphic novel where gothic horror, witchcraft, and mystery entwine in a chilling tale of conspiracy, magic, and murder.
|
In the mining town of Blackmouth, prosperity reigns, but beneath the surface lies an ancient darkness. Ruled by a monastic council, the town's wealth conceals a sinister truth: a malevolent Witch dwells in the nearby Black Woods, consuming souls and spreading terror. No one who ventures into her domain ever returns.”

- 2 oz bourbon
- 4 oz apple cider
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 2 tsp honey
- 1 cinnamon stick
Combine everything except the bourbon in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Then lower the heat and let it simmer for about five minutes. Stir in the bourbon and enjoy immediately in your favourite mug.
|
My recent trip to an apple orchard left me with a voluminous jug of apple cider, and what better way to use it then this cozy autumn drink.
