The Falcone Report
Back to school! Back to work! Back to writing! The summer break always breezes by so quickly but this year it was especially so. In a blink of an eye nine weeks passed and the blur of family activities gave way to our fall routine. I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to write in restful locales, but now it really is time to get back to the grind. I always take stock in September. In a lot of ways, it tends to feel more like New Years, more like January 1st , despite the fact that I have not been in school for quite some time.

This month I’ve been working on a pitch that I’m really excited about. You need to be relatively excited about any pitches that you are working on (otherwise why are you doing it?), but sometimes you have an idea that just sings to you and your fingers are crossed extra hard that it all works out. That’s where I’m at now. Of course, I can’t say much more but I can say that anything that engrosses you completely while just writing the pitch probably means that your enthusiasm will come through on the page.

Transformers Vol 1: Robots In Disguise
|
By Daniel Warren Johnson and Mike Spicer.
|
As part of Skybound Entertainment’s take on G.I. Joe and Transformers (dubbed the Energon Universe) this volume re-introduced the beloved shape-shifting robots into the fray. Any fans of the 80s tv show will be immediately hooked on the evocative art style and the visceral ultra-violence that is that the same time unexpected and totally in place with the beloved children’s toy series.
|
I’m not usually a fan of taking something for children and adulting it up with very serious violence and fan service for 50-year-olds but this really works and is such an enjoyable ride that anyone who is a fan of the original tv show, the Michael Bay movies, or early cgi beast fables will have blast picking this up.

You can have this over ice in a rocks glass, but I prefer having it straight up in a brandy snifter. First, rinse the glass with warm water to raise the temp a bit. Then pour in equal parts brandy and benedictine and stir. This is a flavourful, and strong, drink, with the liquors really complementing each other. I would enjoy one slowly after dinner though; you shouldn’t operate heavy machinery after one of these.
